Procter & Gamble sales disappoint as price hikes slow down
  + stars: | 2024-04-19 | by ( Amelia Lucas | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +3 min
In October, executives said that they anticipated returning to volume growth in fiscal 2024. However, three of P&G's divisions reported volume growth for the quarter. The company's grooming business, home to its Gillette and Venus razors, reported volume growth of 2%. And fabric and home care, which includes Febreze and Swiffer, saw 1% volume growth. That's a reversal from the last two fiscal years, when commodity costs weighed on the company, leading to price hikes.

We’re growing some teeth as to what can be done with AI, but we also see where there’s progress, there’s attack. One of the things I like to point out with AI systems is that if your AI systems fail on people of color, you don’t have a robust system. If your AI doesn’t work on the global majority, if your AI doesn’t work for women, if your AI doesn’t work for people with disabilities, once you start expanding all of the areas we’re talking about, it comes to your AI doesn’t work for humanity. To me, that’s a proactive approach of saying, how do we build consumer AI technology in a way that’s more ethical? I was talking to Sam Altman about the climate impact of AI, especially these large language models and generative AI systems.

Ticketholders will be the first to have access to the limited-edition cups, which will be available in both black and white. The Utah Jazz will be selling exclusive Stanley Quenchers emblazoned with the Jazz logo at the team's next home game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, February 4. The drop is part of a multi-year agreement between Stanley and the Jazz. Stanley is particularly popular in Utah. If Stanley's recent drops are any indication, the Jazz cups should be a hot commodity.

"Every time we linked it, it would sell out so quickly," LeSueur told The New York Times. The Buy Guide had to pay for warehouse space and shipping and handling fees, but was allowed to keep the profits, The Times reported. "It was a big risk," LeSueur told CNBC. AdvertisementThe Buy Guide placed another wholesale order for 5,000 – and they sold out in an hour, Retail Dive reported. Reilly told CNBC that Stanley was making more products available with each drop but still wanted "a little bit of scarcity" to create a buzz.

P & G's results Wednesday demonstrate that its recent outperformance compared with its staples peers is justified. Quarterly commentary Procter & Gamble delivered on key metrics such as gross margins and organic sales growth. Secondly, excluding declines in China, P & G's volume was up in the rest of the world. Consumers in Western Europe remain relatively resilient, Schulten said, while describing P & G's business in Latin America as "on fire." P&G Studios head Kimberly Doebereiner argues that great entertainment can come from brands. Procter & Gamble is at the forefront of the growing brand film space — with its own in-house shingle, P&G Studios, actively pursuing entertainment projects that look nothing like ads. "The first thing I'd love is for the distributors to see that great content can come from anybody, and even if it's from a brand, that doesn't mean it's brand content," she told Insider in an interview. "We have great marketing, we have great brands, we can help bring in viewers, right? "We'd love to have our content be able to show up in the retailer with our brands and create better awareness for that content," Doebereiner said.

CNN —From statehouses to the presidential campaign trail, Republicans are escalating their political attacks on transgender people – a reflection of what they see as a cultural fight their base is eager to wage. And in recent days, those attacks have turned into new forms of mockery and political retribution, as Republicans seek to turn transgender rights into a flashpoint by seizing on social media controversies and exercising their rule-making power in statehouses where they hold large majorities. “A lot of young trans people are worried that their medication is going to get pulled,” she said of legislation targeting health insurance coverage for gender-affirming care. Transgender rights activists protest outside the House chamber at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City on February 6, 2023. That is not a transgender person,” Haley said of Mulvaney as the crowd nodded.

Impact on Club stocks Club stocks with China exposure largely followed the broader market lower Wednesday amid a day of choppy trading in equity and energy markets, fueled by growing fears of a recession. Chip designer Qualcomm (QCOM) also has warned about the impact of China's Covid policy, saying that overall macroeconomic weakness in the country has weighed on smartphone demand. But Wednesday's announcement, nonetheless, signals an important development for Club stocks with China exposure.
